The organization Armenian Unity of Latvia considers it necessary to publicly state that it does not support or share the content or the initiative of the letter published on behalf of the Armenian communities of the Baltic States.
Armenian Unity of Latvia represents specific public individuals and tangible work that can be reviewed on our official website and social media platforms. For the past five years, we have been organizing workshops, networking events, and concerts, launching social initiatives, and acting as an intermediary between the Armenian community and the state institutions of Latvia.
Despite the extensive work carried out by our non-profit organization, we do not make loud statements nor do we speak on behalf of all Armenians in Latvia. This stands in contrast to the head of the “Havatk” community, whose existence we learned about with surprise only after reading this letter. While searching for information, we discovered that this community has existed for more than 15 years; however, we were unable to find a single public initiative or event organized by this community for Armenians in Latvia. The head of this community, who signed the letter, is also unknown to us and has not been present at any event of the Armenian community in Latvia.
We firmly believe that no group or individual has the right to speak on behalf of the entire Armenian diaspora of Latvia, especially to make such high-profile and politically charged statements without a mandate or the consent of the community.
Armenian Unity of Latvia carries out its activities outside of politics.
Our organization was established and continues to operate with a single purpose: to support the Armenian diaspora in Latvia through cultural, educational, and charitable initiatives, and to preserve the national identity, language, history, and spiritual heritage of the Armenian people.
Our mission is to educate, unite, and represent Armenian culture within Latvian society, to promote dialogue, mutual respect, and the strengthening of community ties, rather than to deepen divisions or replace real work with loud declarations.
We do not agree with the content of this letter and believe that before making statements on behalf of a community, it is necessary to carry out real, consistent, and transparent work for that community and to earn people’s trust through concrete actions rather than words.
Armenian Unity of Latvia will continue its activities guided by the principles of responsibility, neutrality, respect for institutions, and a focus on constructive work for the benefit of the Armenian diaspora in Latvia.
